moments from now the white house will issue a stern warning about a potential winter surge of covid-19. the administration s coronavirus response coordinator says the stakes are even higher this season because the country is facing a trio of viral threats. covid, rsv, and the flu. they continue to dominate hospital occupancy. the health care association of new york says 100% of hospitals are reporting nursing shortages that they have not been able to fill so far. officials fear the busy holiday season could only exacerbate the problem. cnn s senior white house correspondent jeremy diamond is at the white house with the latest. so jeremy, what are you expecting o officials to lay out? reporter: well, listen, every winter of this covid pandemic we have seen surngz of cases across the country. last winter of course because of vaccinations the resulting hospitalizations and deaths were far lower, but we still saw a surge in cases. and so as we are beginning to see cases tick up once ag

the big fundamental question is when is influenza or some of the other viruses going to hit and if they hit on top of this rsv that s going toen devastating to capacity and it means it will likely have to continue to cancel surgeries and elective procedures as we try to face this sort of pandemic we are seeing with nursing shortages, respiratory therapists, et cetera. are you concerned that this isn t even the peak, that is just might get worse? so, you know, i wish i could give you the direct answer. the truth is we don t know. so things are acting differently than previously pre-pandemic. so the fact that rsv came in june of last year and is now rearing its ugly head here in september means we may have a prolonged period of time for rsv, but we may have influenza all on the heels of this and that s what makes this complicating to at least predict. what do you recommend parents need to look out for, caregivers? i mean, look, my twins, they are now 10, but they got rsv when they
