KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has failed to recuse ad hoc prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution team in his 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) audit report tampering trial.
PUTRAJAYA (Feb 3): The Court of Appeal (COA) today decided that former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak s appeal to set aside his conviction and sentence in relation to the SRC International Sdn Bhd case is now fixed for 12 days beginning April 5, and not Feb 15 or March as was decided earlier.
The dates for the hearing of the appeal are from April 5 to 8, 12 to 15 and 19 to 22, as decided by the COA s senior deputy registrar N Kanageswari and deputy registrar Darmafikri Abu Adam. Both of them handled the case management today.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul appeared for the state, while lawyers Nur Syahirah Hanapiah and Muhammad Farhan Shafee appeared for the defence.

One of his lawyers, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, in a text message, said the hearing of the appeal initially fixed on Feb 15 has been vacated.
The appeal was fixed for case management Tuesday before Court of Appeal’s deputy registrars Darmafikri Abu Adam and N. Kanageswari.

However, the case management would continue tomorrow to fix new hearing dates and filing of submissions, according to sources.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court will hear on Jan 27 an application by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to disqualify former Federal Court judge, Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, from leading the prosecution team in his on-going trial over alleged tampering of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) audit report.
Lawyer Nur Syahirah Hanapiah, representing Najib, told reporters this after the case came up for mention today before deputy registrar, Catherine Nicholas.
Also present was deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam.
“Senior counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is currently on medical leave, so the hearing, initially fixed for today, has to be taken off.
