Worcester now has one of the highest Covid infection rates in the country, the latest figures have shown. The number of new coronavirus cases in the Worcestershire district has more than doubled in the space of a week, with 57 new cases in the seven days to May 23.

Covid infection rates are starting to soar in Worcestershire postcodes as the county tackles the emergence of two variants. The worst-hit postcode is Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood, which now has an infection rate of 183.2 per 100,000 people according to an interactive map by Public Health England.
COVID: 101 cases recorded in county THE number of new coronavirus cases in the county has continued to rise according to the latest figures with almost half of the cases recorded in Worcester. Public Health England said a total of 101 cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to May 20 - a rise of 63 per cent compared to the week before. The latest figures show 49 cases were recorded in the city in the week up to May 20 - a rise of 104 per cent compared to the previous week. The infection rate in Worcester is now 48.4 cases per 100,000 people. A total of 17 cases were recorded in Malvern Hills - a rise of 21 per cent compared to the previous week and 12 cases were recorded in Wychavon which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich.
