security adviser and his host today. right. so chris, it absolutely is a violation of the un security council resolutions that prohibit north korea from conducting any ballistic missile tests. it doesn t matter what the distance is. so you can t down play it, and you know, the president can t have it both ways. he oftentimes wants to rely on un and international pressure, maximum pressure on north korea and iran. you know, if the turns around ad belittles un security resolutions in this context, hoo he s going to have a harder time. the second thing is, yes, kim jong un is trying to get attention, he s trying to get the united states back to the negotiating table because he wants to get out from under all of the sanctions and hemen want deal that doesn t require complete elimination of his nuke weapons. we re at a diplomatic impasse and the north koreans are saying, hey, time is running out, let s get back to the negotiating table. if we are back to the
in and challenge for small steps along the way would go a long way toward building that confidence. of course, the u.s. has said they re not giving up any economic relief until north korea gets rid of all of its nuke weapons. that has really ground talks to a halt. are they closer to a compromise? we know there are talks in sweden, negotiations between the u.s. and north korea. could those talks be hammering out the details of pre conditions ahead of the summit? it could lead to an actual substantive agreement with step that s could be taken. in terms of where the summit might happen, there have been several locations. my sources are telling me, the most likely place is vietnam. and there are a few reasons of it is an easy trip for kim jong-un to make. vietnam glass relations with north korea and the u.s. and it is a country that fought a war with the united states, and recovered. and as kim jong-un takes steps
general mattis meets with the president tomorrow at the white house. in addition north korea believes the united states wants to change their leadership. internally in that country that s what they fear the most. would you agree with that point? yeah. they ve changed their position a little bit. the grandfather and father believed that pointing nuke weapons at south korea would guarantee no regime change. after they watched afghanistan and libya and qaddafi and libya gave it up. their policy shifted. kim jong-un said holding south korea hostage to nuclear weapons isn t enough. we have to hold the american people hostage like russia and china does. that s when he changed his program. so his backup his stand down position is no regime change in
