As Montgomery County continues trying to reduce the number of new COVID-19 cases, the County Council is writing checks to help meet the needs caused so far by the pandemic.
On Tuesday, the council unanimously approved spending roughly $25.7 million on various COVID-19 health and relief programs.
The largest chunk of the funds $12.8 million will go to the Montgomery County Food Security Fund. The money will be used to purchase food in bulk and support marketing operations, including outreach to communities.
The council previously provided $10.3 million to support the implementation of a food security pandemic response program in June. The initial appropriation had been fully spent or committed as of Dec. 1.
