ROCKLAND, Texas â You could call this story a Mothers Day miracle.
Time was up for a female pit bull and her three puppies at Nueces County Animal Services in Robstown since no one had expressed an interest, but that wasn t stopping animal advocates from getting the four-legged family out of harm s way.
Nueces County Animal Services worked hand-in-hand with Sophie s House Rescue out of Rockland to make sure the overbred and unwanted mother and her three pups would be saved.

There s been a lot of emphasis on people getting vaccinated this year, but you can t forget about your pets.
Nueces County Animal Services is offering low-cost vaccination clinics for your furry friends. Veterinarian Dr Steve Lee says he s been working with Nueces County to provide low cost clinics for more than 30 years. On Saturday they were at the Agua Dulce Senior Center and Banquete Senior Center. The county has advertised with some PSA s I think on the radios and maybe even the newspapers, and they have made and handed out fliers to various businesses, said Dr. Lee.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Every year, Nueces County Animal Services sees an increased number of stray and surrendered pets coming into its shelter during the holidays.
But this year, the spike is even steeper and shelter leaders believe it is a statewide problem. Itâs been worse this year, and we do believe itâs due to the (COVID-19) pandemic, Nueces County Animal Services Volunteer Live Release Coordinator Lisa Bockholt said. People have been out of work and losing jobs and have had to give up family pets.

ROBSTOWN, Texas Just days before Christmas, several dogs and cats are sitting in kennels at the Nueces County Animal Services shelter just waiting for a home.
Nueces County Animal Services say they are completely full on capacity right now, and they need families who are willing to adopt.
Remember, giving a pet for Christmas is a huge responsibility for the receiver, and it is always best to make sure the recipient is ready to care for a pet for years to come.
