The king and president make their way underneath the Arc De Triomphe, just in the position below where i am standing a few hundred metres away, we are seeing the Republican Guard battalions heading out towards the Champs Elysees. This has been the first formal Set Piece Event of this visit, just in the last 90 minutes or so, the king and green touched down in france, made their way to central paris, the roads have been closed for a good few hours here down the Champs Elysees and around the Arc De Triomphe. This formal welcome was made by president macron and the events unfolded, the laying of the reef, the rekindling of the flame underneath the Arc De Triomphe. Spectacular images which will baby much notjust across france but around the world. And i hope from both the french and uk government is that this is a very visual powerful way of expressing solidarity, friendship, unity. At the time, i think all leaders were aware that this was something qualitatively different, they werent sure what it meant. When one plane can inflict the same level of damage that it previously took thousands of planes and maybe multiple raids by thousands of planes to inflict, i think everyone realized things would be different.
