Koobideh that s pronounced coo-bee-deh is the best grilled ground meat you will ever eat. Sometimes it s just lamb, sometimes it s just beef, but traditionally, it s a combination of the two mixed with grated onion, sumac, salt, and pepper. If you ve never heard of it, don t feel bad. Koobideh is a Persian kabob (no, I didn t mean to write kebab ). Similar to so many other ethnic foods, Persian cuisine doesn t really have a big foothold in SLO County. I grew up eating the succulent kabob alongside platters of delicate white and yellow rice laced with saffron, butter, and salt or wrapped in flatbreads like lavash or sanghak so the juicy meat soaked into the bread.

FIRST LINE A proposed agreement between Pismo Beach and Grover Beach would consolidate the cities emergency dispatch services. At a meeting on March 2, Pismo Beach City Council unanimously voted to authorize the execution of an agreement to provide full-time dispatch services to Grover Beach, which city staff say would result in hundreds of thousands of dollars of savings for both Grover and Pismo. The Grover Beach City Council will consider the topic later this month.
San Luis Obispo County Public Health is moving away from a first-come, first-serve COVID-19 vaccination appointment system to a new lottery-based system a change that officials say will ease stress and ensure more equity in the vaccination process. Instead of announcing the availability of new appointment slots each Thursday, which are getting gobbled up within a few hours, SLO County is instead asking all vaccine-eligible residents to register once on its website at recoverslo.org/vaccines. Then each Thursday, starting March 4, officials will randomly select which people in the larger pool will get scheduled for their first vaccine shot. click to enlarge
Questionable actions
Bizarre from the start, the Feb. 23 Port San Luis Harbor Commission meeting provided ripe fodder for a
SNL spoof. It was complete with a white elitist badge-toting, take-no-prisoners sheriff from Texas and a gang of three schoolyard bullies.
The night s debacle was replete with misogyny on raw display, dismissal of a respected progressive Jewish human rights advocate, and coddling of a business owner.
Then came the truly despicable part. Said bullies set about to defame a well respected, long-standing community leader a man who is an honest business owner and public servant of widely known integrity. For what reason? Unclear. Degree of seriousness? Disputable, but sounded like some sort of one-off happening that could probably be cleared up in an instance without ego-driven personalities running amuck.
