Describing the decision as unfortunate, George Ankamah said the engagement of Gabass who is serving time for defilement is an attack on the hard earned reputation of the university. Ankamah, an alumnus of the university issued the condemnation when he featured as a panelist on Suncity 97.1 FM’s Morning Drive in Sunyani on Tuesday.

Graphic Online BY: Kwame Asare Boadu 705 The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has engaged three inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison as facilitators for the university’s Distance Learning Programme at the prison. The inmates include Dr Sulley Ali-Gabass, a medical doctor. As facilitators, Dr Ali-Gabass, who, before his sentence, was a medical practitioner at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region, and the two others help the lecturers in teaching as and when necessary. The Chief Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Prisons Service, Chief Supt Courage Atsem, told Graphic Online in an interview on Monday [March 15, 2021] that 59 inmates were currently pursuing diploma programmes at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where the UCC established a campus in January last year.

Authorities at the Nsawam prison have disclosed that all earnings by jailed medical doctor Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass and other inmates who are serving as tutors at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) campus established in the rehabilitation center are being saved and would be paid to them after they finish serving their prison terms.
