Word in political corridors is that the Amathole district municipality’s special council meeting on Thursday will unveil former Nkonkobe municipality mayor Anele Ntsangani as ADM’s new executive mayor. There was speculation recently that ANC MPL Nozibele Nyalambisa might take over the reins at the troubled municipality, but Ntsangani has now emerged as the front-runner to replace Nceba Ndikinda.
The provincial ANC’s problem of finding a way to create space in the Bhisho legislature for its newly elected provincial treasurer Zolile Williams seems to be a thing of the past after Babalo Madikizela on Tuesday confirmed he would soon vacate his seat as a member of the provincial legislature. Madikizela said he would do so before this month’s envisaged cabinet reshuffle.

The Eastern Cape legislature’s portfolio committee on health tabled its report on the state-funded Lilitha Nursing College, revealing an institution in disarray where exam papers were sometimes set in handwriting. The college’s report was tabled by committee chair Nozibele Nyalambisa. The committee undertook an oversight visit to five Lilitha campuses in Gqeberha, East London, Komani, Mthatha and Lusikisiki.
