Despite killing the polio vaccine workers, Pakistanis still eagerly await the COVID vaccine!
Prof. Pervez Hoodbhoy, the noted Pakistani physicist and popular writer, in his article “Muslims and technology” in Pakistani daily ‘Dawn’ dated January 2, 2021 discussed the prospects of Muslims adopting technology to innovate.
Muslims have always feared that technology will destroy their faith. Of course, they accepted printing press, loudspeaker, weather forecasts, cameras and television, blood transfusions, organ transplants, and in-vitro fertilisation. Despite killing the polio vaccine workers, Pakistanis still eagerly await the COVID vaccine!
Islamic rituals now use technology. A SalatCard counts rakats in prayers. There is wuzu (ablution) machine. Egypt government airs computer-run standardised azan in 113 mosques of Cairo. All these would have invited multiple fatwas a decade back, not anymore.
