general. joining us now former u.s. attorney for the northern district of alabama and msnbc legal analyst joyce vance. joyce, great to see you as always. let s start with the donohue part here, how critical you think his potential testimony would be but also just the fact that though there s indictment watch in the air here in washington, it seems pretty clear that jack smith s probe is only growing. i think that second part of the question is dead on the money, jonathan. we may have all jumped the gun a little bit when we looked at the target letter that was sent to trump and thought there would be an imminent indictment. this may be a little more imminent in the georgia sense of the word than in the sense we would like to perhaps see this time line proceed on because jack smith is still hard at work. and this testimony from mr. donohue is critical. it s very important to note he did not appear in front of the grand jury. that s likely because he has
what i m asking you to do is say it was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the republican congressman zmch that was former acting deputy attorney general richard donohue testifying before the house select committee last year about a conversation he had with then-president donald trump just days before the capitol insurrection. now donohue is telling nbc news he has been interviewed by special counsel jack smith s office. he added that he has not been called to testify before the grand jury investigating the 2020 election on january 6th. the former doj official told house lawmakers last year that he repeatedly pushed back against baseless claims of a stolen election which are being pedalled by trump and his l.a.s. he also said he threatened to resign during an oval office meeting in 2021 when trump came close to installing election denying environmental lawyer jeffrey clark as attorney
