Novas Frequências x Fact: Naves Cilíndricas – Tempo Real
A meditation on ecological collapse from Brazilian musician Naves Cilíndricas.
Fact continues a series of works from Brazilian festival Novas Frequências’s 2020 programme with Tempo Real, an audiovisual piece from Naves Cilíndricas, the musical project of Rio de Janeiro-based artist Gabriel Junqueira.
Junquiera uses music as a way to expand on his work in digital media, which explores the relationships between body, materiality and technology. His music combines digital production techniques with vocals, creating an ethereal blend of high-concept club structures and melancholy ambient textures.

Novas Frequências x Fact: Mexo – rragrfrRrr
An audiovisual collage of digital imagery and improvisational electronic sound from the Brazilian artist.
In the fourth of a series of works from Brazilian festival Novas Frequências’s 2020 programme, Fact presents rragrfrRrr, an audiovisual work from Mexo, the artistic persona and multimedia project Matheus Fernandes, art and media director at Federal University of Campina Grande.
“The project is a consequence of the artist’s curiosity and urgency to create a space in which it was possible to distort his own body, his identity, to encourage anomalous imagery, to find (dis)solutions for a body and an inconvenient sound to his reality inside the Northeast,” says Novas Frequências.
Novas Frequências x Fact: Barulhista x J.P. Cuenca – Descarrego
YouTube footage and electroacoustic timbres combine on this piece from Brazilian festival Novas Frequências’s 2020 edition.
In the second of a series of works from Brazilian festival Novas Frequências’s 2020 programme, Fact presents Descarrego, an original audiovisual work by sound artist Barulhista and writer/filmmaker J.P. Cuenca. In the piece, which takes place on a computer desktop, YouTube footage is assembled and juxtaposed over an atmospheric soundtrack.
The duo says of the work: “The only way to be saved from the abyss is to look at it and probe it and lower it, as an antidote and ascesis. Then go up, down to the other side. Brazilian electroacoustic timbres, underground drones, Alva Noto playing capoeira.”
