A long-time friendship is making it possible for students in the Vandalia School District – and many others in the area – to receive filtered water in pouches.
Dana Bevin, Vandalia Elementary School assistant principal and district special education coordinator, is pictured with some of the 200,000 pouches of water received from Kraft Heinz through a friendship dating back to high school.
Dana Bevin, who joined the school district staff this school year as assistant principal at Vandalia Elementary School and new special education coordinator, was contacted by Jeff Garde, a friend since high school, about getting those pouches.

SPRINGFIELD - State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) will partner with Nourishing Greatness to collect food for their weekend food program.
Nourishing Greatness is a local food program focused on raising awareness about and eliminating the widespread problem of childhood hunger. The organization’s goal is to send at least 4.5 meals home with Vandalia students in need who might otherwise go without meals over the weekend.
Plummer will use his Vandalia District Office as a food drop-off location to benefit the program. Through Jan. 15, interested donors may drop off non-perishable food items at this location, at 310 West Gallatin Street.
