Noted Assamese litterateur and Padma Shri awardee Lakshmi Nandan Bora passed away at a private hospital in Guwahati on Thursday. He was 91.
Suffering from ailments associated with old age, he was admitted to the hospital more than a week ago after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mourned the death of the writer whose novel
Patal Bhairavi fetched him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988.
“His death has left a void in the Assamese literary world,” former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

The Sahitya Akademi awardee was discharged from the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on May 7 after testing negative for COVID-19 Noted Assamese litterateur and journalist Homen Borgohain breathed his last on Wednesday morning at a private hospital here. He was 88.
The Sahitya Akademi awardee was admitted to the hospital after he collapsed at home. Doctors attributed the death to cardiac arrest.

GUWAHATI: Noted Assamese singer Kula Baruah passed away at his Silpukhuri residence in Guwahati on the night of Wednesday. He was 82. His mortal remains were cremated at Nabagraha crematorium in the presence of his admirers on Thursday.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the demise of the singer. This is an irreparable loss for the cultural arena in Assam. The people of the State will remember him for his contributions, he said.
