Shore is the fourth full-length album from the folk-rock band Fleet Foxes. It was released six months into the global pandemic and was one of the stronger popular music albums of 2020. The album is an attempt to deal with emotions and turmoil generated by the global crisis that has now killed over three million people and caused unimaginable suffering. A video installation was released with the album, which attempts to mirror the overall aesthetic tone of the music as well.
Fleet Foxes consists primarily of band members Robin Pecknold, Skyler Skjelset, Casey Wescott, Christian Wargo and Morgan Henderson. All are multi-instrumentalists and vocalists. The band originally formed in Seattle in 2006. Pecknold is the principal artistic engine of the group and the lead songwriter, guitarist and singer. The band members generally perform together as a live act, and a wide assortment of guest players appear in the studio productions.
Earlier this year, Fleet Foxes released the video for âIâm Not My Season.â
Shore was something of a surprise album, announced just days ahead of its release in September, accompanied by a 55-minute companion film by Kersti Jan Werdal. The album is coming to physical formats (vinyl, CD, and cassette tape) on March 19.

As gathering restrictions continue, NPR s Tiny Desk concert series is also still taking place at home. The latest edition of the series features Fleet Foxes Robin Pecknold performing a solo acoustic set of four songs from the band s 2020 album,
Featuring stripped-down versions of Going-to-the-Sun-Road, Sunblind, Featherweight and I m Not My Season, Pecknold s extra tiny desk, chill sandles and earth-toned studio space make for an intimate and unadorned set. Thank you so much for asking me to find the tiniest desk I could, and sing unadorned for the first time in too long, he says in the video. I m excited for real shows and contact, but this is so fun.

Shore is a record reflective of the past year, one that searches for joyful connection with others in the midst of disparate times. Pecknold’s latest livestream, a solo performance titled “A Very Lonely Solstice,” channeled this appreciation for life into a moving set of songs that offered solace to the lonely on the longest night of the year.
The livestream took place Dec. 21, the night of the winter solstice. Performed inside St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, the concert was streamed via Noonchorus.
