STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
The day commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza. Over the last 150 years, Americans have latched onto the occasion by partying and eating traditional Mexican fare.
Staten Island restaurants across the borough are offering specials to mark Cinco de Mayo this year. Keep scrolling to see what they are doing and how you can support them.
