Two men have been sentenced for the gang-related shooting death of a Chicago woman who was hit by a stray bullet as she was out shopping with her young sons.
Bryant Mitchell, 27, and Marco Zabala, 28, were each sentenced to over 50 years in prison by a Cook County, Illinois, judge for their roles in the shooting death of Candice Dickerson.
In 2019, Candice Dickerson was at a Metro PCS store getting a cell phone for one of her three sons as a gift to honor him for good grades. Shots were fired by two gang members, and she was killed.
“It’s not stupidity. . It’s a function of not caring about anything except channelling their gang animus toward some other gang member,” Judge Timothy Joyce said in handing down the sentences Tuesday.
