Ambuja Cement introduces green fuel on captive ships ANI | Updated: Apr 27, 2021 13:29 IST Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 27 (ANI): Ambuja Cement said on Tuesday it has successfully completed sea trials of using soya extract-based biofuel in two of its cement carriers Ambuja Mukund and Ambuja Vaibhav. This makes Ambuja Cement not just the first Indian company to move towards the decarbonisation of the country s coastal shipping lines but also advancing its focus on two of its strategic priorities: innovation and sustainability. The sea trials were conducted with the approval of Directorate General of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping. DGS has approved biofuel trials on the remaining fleet of Ambuja Cements that are mostly deployed on Indian coastal routes.

Developing countries explore maritime alternative fuel opportunities A new workshop package on ‘Alternative fuels and energy carriers for maritime shipping’ has been launched this week (13-16 April). Georgia, India and South Africa are the first countries to benefit from the package, delivered online and organized under the IMO-Norway GreenVoyage2050 project, with China set to take part in the second workshop at the end of April. The workshop brought together participants from relevant government agencies, fuel suppliers, shipping companies/shipowners/operators, port authorities and academia to discuss a variety of alternative fuel options for the maritime sector and how these could support achieving the GHG reduction targets set out in the Initial IMO GHG Strategy. The workshop considered key concepts related to alternative fuels and provided detailed information on individual fuels which are i) commercially available, ii) in demonstration phase and iii) under development.

GreenVoyage2050: States Accelerate Action to Decarbonize Shipping – Advanced BioFuels USA

(International Maritime Shipping)  IMO-Norway project is supporting States to implement energy efficiency measures and explore opportunities for low carbon shipping. Eleven States from across the globe are partnering in the International Maritime Organization (IMO)-Norway GreenVoyage2050 Project, which is supporting the path to decarbonization in the shipping sector, in line with the IMO Initial Strategy on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from shipping (IMO Initial GHG Strategy). Through the IMO Initial GHG Strategy, IMO Member States have pledged to cut annual greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping by at least half by 2050, compared with their level in 2008, and work towards phasing out GHG emissions from shipping entirely as soon as possible in this century.
