The Norwalk Community School District broke ground on a new $25 million physical education center and classroom addition project Monday near the site of its former football field.
The ceremony was led by Superintendent D.T. Magee and other district officials who said the Norwalk Physical Education and Competition Center and Norwalk High School classroom additions will help upgrade facilities and fill the fast-growing district s educational and recreational needs. The ceremony was delayed from its initial start date of April 12 because bids on the project came in 12.72% over budget, at more than $26.2 million. During the next 25 years, over 10,000 students will benefit from these new phases. The NPECC will serve as a P.E. classroom by day and an athletic complex with a large amount of sports and recreational opportunities on evenings and weekends, Kate Baldwin, the district s business manager, said.
