Perhaps nowhere in England demonstrates an effortless rapport between man and nature better than the Cotswolds. An 800 square mile tranche of land spanning five counties, the ‘wolds’ are cherished for their rolling hills speckled with picturesque villages in every shade of ‘oolic’ limestone. Yet beyond this popular image, the region is an embarrassment of riches for the walker, boasting ancient woodland, escarpment vantage points, historic mills, grand palaces and secluded river valleys.
