Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools updated their COVID-19 numbers for the week of Feb. 15 through Feb. 21 on Monday.
The past week was notable for a couple of reasons: No. 1, CCS moved into Plan A for elementary students through third grade, and KCS reopened in Plan B after moving to Plan C at the start of winter break, and No. 2, there was a significant drop in cases between the two districts combined.
KCS reported four new cases of COVID-19 on campus, with 12 new quarantines. That is up one case from the week before, but the numbers include students this time around, which adds 3,665 people to the data pool. The 12 quarantines were also down from 17 during the previous week.
Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools reported their updated COVID-19 numbers for the week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 31 on Monday.
KCS reported three new cases and 16 new quarantines while CCS reported 61 new cases (19 staffers and 42 students). CCS is not currently releasing quarantine numbers to the public.
Kannapolis City Schools remains in Plan C, so no students are on campus, but 743 staff members remain at work in either nutritional or administrative capacities.
Superintendent Chip Buckwell, who announced his retirement Monday after 37 years with KCS, released the numbers in his weekly Facebook video.
âAs our community keeps moving towards large-scale vaccination, it is still important to continue with all the recommended prevention practices,â he said. âGetting students safely back face-to-face is #KCSEssential.â
