Brighton, Ontario, Canada / Brighton Today.ca Dec 17, 2020 2:28 PM The HKPR district health unit region has 5 new COVID-19 cases as of today (Dec 17), with 4 cases in Northumberland County and 1 in Kawartha Lakes. Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting a single-day record of 2,432 new cases today. It’s also reporting 23 new deaths. Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are 737 new cases in Toronto, 434 in Peel Region, 209 in York Region, 190 in Windsor-Essex, and 142 in Hamilton. In the province’s long-term care homes, 819 residents currently have COVID-19. And late yesterday (Dec 16), the Ministry of Education asked all school boards to be prepared for the possibility of Winter Break.

Peel and Toronto Regions to Remain in Grey-Lockdown TORONTO As the province engages with public health experts and frontline partners on what additional measures may be necessary to break trends in increased cases and hospitalizations, the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and local medical officers of health, is moving six public health regions to new levels per the  After assessing trends in key public health indicators, Peel Public Health and Toronto Public Health will remain in the Grey-Lockdown level to be re-assessed on January 4, 2021.  In addition, five public health regions will be moved to levels with stronger public health measures, including moving the City of Hamilton Public Health Services to Grey-Lockdown. Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting two-thousand-139 more cases of COVID-19 today. The province says 43 more people have died from the virus. Of the active cases, 932 people are hospitalized including 256 people in intensive care. Health Minister Christine Elliott says 780 cases were in Toronto, 528 in Peel Region, 148 in York Region and 143 in Durham. Northumberland also has 43 unresolved cases, compared to 9 for the Kawartha’s and 1 in the Haliburton Region. High risk contacts now sits at 125 in Northumberland, 25 in Kawartha Lakes and 1 in the Haliburton Region. High risk contacts refers to individuals who are known to have been in contact with a Confirmed or Probable case.
