The event took place on December 3 as part of the International Day of People with Disabilities. Not all disabilities are visible, and this year s theme was to raise awareness of those who have to explain to help other people understand their circumstances. The day focused on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others. Coun. Guy Renner-Thompson, cabinet member for children s Services, said: The council is committed to safeguarding our children and young people, supporting them and their families at every stage. As a society we need to have a more positive attitude towards disabilities – hidden or not, and this is why the council supports a day such as this.”
