CARSON CITY, Nev. – Arturo Ortiz, 25, spent eight years in a bakery, missing family gatherings and holidays due to work hours that didn’t always align with his family’s schedule.
Western Nevada College and area high school students participated in the ROADS Workforce Career Fair and Workshop on Wednesday on the Carson City campus. Students gained valuable skills networking with local business leaders. They practiced their interview skills, developed or improved their resumés and discovered new career opportunities.
Back in 2005, Randi Reed was working on the business development side for a subcontractor in Las Vegas.
It was her first job in the construction industry, and she was thriving â so much so that over a two-year period, Reed racked up a substantial amount in commissions.
This was a problem for her boss, a man.
âI brought my commission sheet into my boss,â Reed recalled during a recent interview with the NNBW. âAnd he looked at it and said, âWow, if I end up paying you this, youâre going to make more than the men in the company, and that just canât happen on my watch.ââ
