with arizona based companies, and, a ban on new ones. similar measures have been proposed, by city leaders in los angeles and by a prominent lawmaker in sacramento to end state contracts until the arizona law is repealed. mayor newsom formed an arizona boycott work group to analyze if and how such a protest could backfire on san francisco businesses, for instance, the city does business with a company that accepts and processes payments in arizona. and city leaders say there is concern if the boycott is not hand carefully there is a risk 2500 san franciscans could lose their jobs and groups like the san francisco visitors and convention bureau and the restaurant lobby also worry about a potential backlash boycott. with arizona and other states that are more conservative than san francisco retaliate and stop sending conventions to san francisco, certainly, in recession we don t want retaliation.
