Apprehended and on the ground, Mr Goutzoulas was hit in the legs with a baton, punched in the stomach and pepper-sprayed, with an officer telling him: “Did you like that? Smells good doesn’t it?”
Though he was subdued and handcuffed, Mr Goutzoulas was sprayed in the face with a high-pressure water hose.
After the footage was published, IBAC charged Constable Edney and senior constables Brad McLeod and Florian Hilgart with assault. A court, while not recording a conviction, found them guilty.
Mr McLeod and Mr Hilgart resigned from the force, but Constable Edney was sacked and appealed to the registration board.
