NEC expresses outrage over Kankara School abduction

THE National Economic Council, NEC, Wednesday expressed outrage over the abduction of Kankara school boys in Katsina State by terrorists, describing the act as not only criminal and lawless but a deliberate attempt to sow seeds of fear in people.
NEC commiserated with families of the victims of the abduction and consoled with the people and government of Katsina State.
This is as the Council also raised the alarm over the spike in COVID-19 cases in the country, advocating rigorous and strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols.
NEC, in a virtual meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, condemned the brazen act of the abductors.

Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, yesterday, said that the gunmen who attacked Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, and kidnapped schoolboys have been contacted and were negotiating the boys’ freedom through the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN.

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo has said the political class derailed the noble objectives for the establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Banigo said this while declaring open the Technical Session of the 4th National Council on Niger Delta in Port Harcourt, noting that NDDC would have performed better in the region if some self-centred politicians were not playing politics with it.
She added that one of the main reasons for the establishment of the NDDC was to build infrastructure and human capital development in the Niger Delta region, but regretted that the commission had been degraded to a mere ATM centre for political sponsorship and patronage of the ruling party.

The Defence Headquarters has said the military and other security agencies are reviewing operations to ensure safe rescue of the children abducted from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Operation, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, stated this while giving update on the military operations across the country on Wednesday in Abuja.
Enenche said that the military had taken all the necessary brief from the operating agencies and the government of Katsina State on the condition of the abducted students.
He said that the major concern of the security agencies was to ensure the safety of the children while carrying out its operation with a view to rescuing them.

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG says it planned #BringBackOurBoys protest to Daura to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari over the recent abduction of the boarding students and insecurity in the Northern region is to hold next Friday.
The Coordinator, Katsina State chapter of the coalition, Jamilu Ali disclosed this to Vanguard on Wednesday.
Ali said they are in the last-minute meeting with its officials after which it will engage the relevant stakeholders to reach the level of understanding to ensure peaceful and hitch-free protest.
According to him, “Currently, we are in meeting with the Board of Trustees, BOT, National and State Executives among other officials of the coalition.
