DA wins battle to make ANC cadre deployment records public

Following months of sustained pressure by the DA, the State Capture Commission has made public the minutes of ANC cadre deployment committee meetings. Since the minutes only appear to date back to 2018, the DA will continue our court battle to also publicise cadre deployment records from before 2018 – when President Cyril Ramaphosa chaired the committee that captured, corrupted and collapsed our state. The minutes show that, between 3 December 2018 and 17 May 2021 under the presidency of Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC’s cadre deployment committee interfered in the appointment of senior public servants to at least 96 different government departments, agencies and the boards of state-owned enterprises.

Ramaphosa s decision to reverse Zuma s NPA appointees was lawful and rational , court rules

Shaun Abrahams. (Lindile Mbontsi) The court said the decision by Cyril Ramaphosa to revoke the appointments of senior advocates was taken lawfully. Former president Jacob Zuma appointed the advocates before his resignation.  His decision was recorded in presidential minutes, but was never made public.  The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria dismissed applications brought by two senior advocates, who were challenging President Cyril Ramaphosa s decision to reverse their appointments at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).  Judge DS Fourie said Ramaphosa s decision was lawful, rational and consistent with the Constitution .  Advocates Ron Simphiwe Mncwabe and Khulekani Raymond Mathenjwa were purportedly promoted days before former president Jacob Zuma s tenure ended.

JSC recommends Phatshoane for Deputy Judge President of Northern Cape and Nxumalo, Lever as judges

During Friday s interviews,  Judge Mmathebe Violet Phatshoane, the only candidate, was recommended for the position of Deputy Judge President in the Northern Cape. Advocates  Lawrence Lever and Albert Nxumalo were recommended, out of three candidates, to fill two vacant judges posts. The interviews will continue on Monday. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has recommended Judge Mmathebe Violet Phatshoane for the Deputy Judge President of the Northern Cape Division of the High Court.  Phatshoane was the only person to be interviewed for the position on Friday. According to Judges Matter, Phatshoane was interviewed twice unsuccessfully in 2017 to be the deputy head of the Northern Cape High Court division.
