Speaker, president peterson, members of the house and senate, attorney general, secretary, treasury, superintendent, inspector marsh, corporation commissioners, chief justice and members of the judiciary tribal leaders, governor brewer and honored guests and all arizonans, it is my honor to stand before you today at the opening of the second regular session of the 56th legislature. Here on land that will always be connected to the awesome key pulse of todays Salt River Maricopa Indian Community and the indian river community. What a year it has been. We have worked together, debated each other, pushed one another, and most importantly, put aside our differences when it mattered most to do whats right for arizona and the people who call it home. Now, i think we can all agree it certainly hasnt been easy, but our constituents didnt send us here to the capital to solve easy problems or take the easy way out. They are relying on us to ensure the economy works

Kimberly eight south american countries have agreed to launch an alliance to fight deforestation in the amazon and vowed at a summit in brazil to stop the worlds biggest rain forest from reaching a point of no return. The summit opened on the same day the European Unions climate observatory confirmed july was the hottest month ever recorded on earth. There are many amazons. The amazons of bolivia, brazil, colombia, ecuador, guyana, peru and venezuela are represented here in this meeting. As a whole, these amazons are home to many others. The amazon of the forest and cities, the amazon of workers, women, and young people, the amazon of Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities, the amazon of culture, science
Tonight we are hosting the National Launch of the book of charlie by David Von Drehle. [applause] the book of charlie is a special book about a special man and it was written by a special mann and i know and i can tell you why David Von Drehle was drawn to charlie because he has a younger charlie and i hope he lives to be 109. [applause] i found a 48 years ago and over that time i have found a few books that represent what i call high water marks in our love of reading and the book of charlie is such a book. It is a book for everyone and i hope that everyone reads it. I agree with tom hanks who gave us this wonderful quote ive got to recommend this book filled with history, wisdom, common sense and loss galore.
