Massean UMC will have a new pastor July 1

Wednesday, May 5, 2021 - 4:53 pm MASSENA Bishop Mark Webb of the Upper New York Annual Conference intends to appoint Pastor Cori Louden to serve as Pastor of the Massena First United Methodist Church, effective July 1, 2021.   Pastor Cori is currently serving the Warsaw Cluster United Methodist Churches and has been  preparing to serve the Massena community with her husband Chris Louden.   Rev. Linda Foody will continue to serve as our Interim Pastor until June 30. Pastor Cori Louden is a Rochester native. She grew up attending Aldersgate United Methodist Church located in Greece, NY. When she was 13 she attended Camp Asbury and there is where she felt the call of God and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.

The most important lesson I’ve learned in my career is that knowing who you are is one of the most important gifts you can bring to yourself, others and your organization. Also, it is equally important that we need to give back to others what we have been given. For me that is the opportunity to create opportunities and access for the next leaders. What’s been your biggest success? As a first-generation college student, my greatest success was completing my doctoral degree. My educational journey transformed my life and the future generations of our family. It also created a path to Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary, where I have the opportunity to support the education of so many others.

If ever there was a time when we needed each other to survive, the time is now. Isolation and social distancing have taken a toll on people’s psyches and mental health. As a global pandemic rages on, gathering as a community seems like a forbidden idea as we are unable to gather outside our homes, in churches, in restaurants and bars, or in sports arenas. There is a sense of longing, unfulfilled, to engage and interact with others in meaningful and purposeful ways. People are social beings created to be in community with each other, and yet many of us find ourselves alone. However, if we are confined by what shape or form a community must take, then we will find ourselves feeling hopelessness and despair. This past year showed me that there are many ways to be community, to share love, and to care for one another without being confined by isolation or social distancing.
