Artists, businesses, volunteers, and educators in the arts community can be nominated for the categories of Performing Artist of the Year, Visual Artists of the Year, BART Award, Volunteer of the Year, Emerging Artist, and the Region 8 Arts Educator of the Year.

The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council has announced its nominees for the 36th annual Northeast Louisiana Arts Awards to be held on May 25.
Nominated artists, businesses and volunteers for excellence in the arts community are recognized during this program. The Northeast Louisiana Arts Awards have five categories: Edmund Williamson Visual Artist of the Year Award, Performing Artist of the Year Award, Dorothy Bassett Emerging Artist Award, BART Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.
Established in 1993, the Artist of the Year Award was renamed in 2009 after artist Edmund Williamson who changed the cultural landscape of northeast Louisiana. Nominees are professional artists who have shown excellence in their discipline and enriched Region 8 through their art form. The 2021 nominees include:
