Temporarily relocated Ladonia Fossil Park to open June 18

LEWISVILLE — As part of upcoming construction of Lake Ralph Hall near Ladonia, the Upper Trinity Regional Water District will build a temporary fossil park which will include a parking lot and access point to the North Sulphur River for fossil hunters. Construction of this temporary fossil park has begun and is scheduled to open June 18. It will be located on the north side of the North Sulphur channel river east side of FM 2990 in Fannin County. “The District recognizes the importance of the Ladonia Fossil Park to the local community and visitors alike,” said Larry N. Patterson, executive director of Upper Trinity. “Both the District and City of Ladonia are working to select another, permanent location downstream of the reservoir for the Ladonia Fossil Park, where fossil hunters can continue safe and easy access to the river bottom after the new reservoir is built.”

Lake Ralph Hall construction to begin soon

BONHAM — As construction on Bois d’Arc Lake in Fannin County continues, construction on Lake Ralph Hall near Ladonia is about to get underway. Both projects are the only new lake construction in Texas in about 35 years, and both are meant to help address water needs as the growing Dallas metroplex stretches further into Northeast Texas. Larry Patterson, executive director for Upper Trinity Regional Water District, visited with Fannin County Commissioners on Tuesday to discuss Lake Ralph Hall. Plans call for construction to begin in June with possible wrap up by December 2025. The project’s permit allows construction through December 2026, Patterson said.

2020 YEAR IN REVIEW: No 8 — New lake construction moves forward

Bois d’arc Lake and Lake Ralph Hall, the two largest lakes to be built in Texas in the past 30 years, are expected to pump millions of dollars into the Northeast Texas economy while supplying water to a thirsty Dallas metroplex. Construction of Bois d’Arc Lake, northeast of Bonham, is nearing completion while Lake Ralph Hall, northeast of Ladonia, gained final approval in early 2020 with work expected to begin in early 2021. News about the two lakes takes spot No. 8 in The Paris News Top Ten stories of 2020. Constructed by the North Texas Municipal Water District regional water system to supply water to the 80 communities it serves in the Dallas Metroplex, Bois d’Arc Lake will inundate 16,641 acres of land and is expected to produce upwards of 70 million gallons of water daily starting in 2022.

The Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) launched a dedicated website for its Lake Ralph Hall water project scheduled to begin construction in early 2021. The new website (lakeralphhall.com) and a dedicated Facebook page (@LakeRalphHall) will share regular updates on the construction activities, contracting opportunities as well as providing resources, newsletter sign up and contact information.   Lake Ralph Hall will be Texas’ newest lake and one of the state’s biggest reservoir projects in nearly 30 years. Located on the North Sulphur River in Fannin County just north of the City of Ladonia, Lake Ralph Hall adds a new water source for the UTRWD. Once complete, Lake Ralph Hall will provide an additional 35 million gallons daily (MGD) of water and 19 MGD of reuse water for the residents of Denton, Collin and Fannin counties.
