Charles St. Martin, RIDOT chief of public affairs, said the agency has made improvements to make the intersection safer for pedestrians by installing pedestrian signals and pushbuttons for crossing the highway. He pointed out some crashes, including the most recent one, have taken place away from the crosswalk and signals intended to improve safety.
