GARNERVILLE - The North Rockland school district finally will receive state help in handling New York state s largest property tax payback, officials announced Tuesday.
The total boost in state aid will give the district about $11.2 million more than originally anticipated. That, school officials say, will mean the proposed $237,491,866 budget going before voters on May 18 will carry a 0% tax levy increase.
The extra aid, cobbled from two key sources in the state s recently finished budget, is roughly equivalent to the whopping debt service that the district continues to pay annually on the largest property tax settlement in state history to Mirant Corp.
