N.J. woman, 66, found dead in house fire, authorities say Updated 11:17 AM; Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include the victim’s information A 66-year-old woman was found dead Monday following an early morning fire in her North Jersey home, authorities said. Sharon Maes was found unresponsive inside the two-story home in the 200 block of North Pleasant Avenue in Ridgewood following the fire, which was reported about 1 a.m., according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. “During fire suppression operations, firefighters located the homeowner (identified as Maes) in the living room of the residence,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a statement. “Maes succumbed to her injuries from the fire and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Ridgewood NJ fire leaves woman dead on North Pleasant Avenue

A woman was found dead inside a house that caught fire early Monday in Ridgewood, police said. Sharon Maes, 66, was found dead in the living room of her North Pleasant Avenue home, the Bergen County Prosecutor s Office stated. The fire started in the kitchen at about 1 a.m., but the cause remains under investigation. The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious, the prosecutor s office stated. Maes was pronounced dead at the scene.  Monday morning, a Ridgewood officer could be seen canvassing the scene and wrapping the door in police tape.  Damage could be seen to the door and windows of the two-story house as personal belongings were gathered around the steps and garage.

Responders found the body of 66-year-old Sharon Maes in the first-floor living room of her two-story North Pleasant Avenue home after fire broke out shortly before 1 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. She d apparently left something unattended in the oven and was overcome by smoke as she tried to flee, responders told Daily Voice. Maes was pronounced dead at the scene, Musella said, adding that the cause wasn t considered suspicious. Musella s detectives were working with village police and the Bergen County Sheriff s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which collected evidence, to officially determine the cause.
