Aug. 13, 1965: Waterballing match outside Courthouse
COREY MCMAKEN | The Journal Gazette
On Aug. 13, 1965, six teams took part in the state championship matches for waterballing on Court Street just east of the Allen County Courthouse.
The Penn South Fire Department, seen in the foreground of this photo, won the state title and moved on to defend its national title the following month in Angola, according to a caption in The Journal Gazette on Aug. 14, 1965. The crews were in town for a state firefighter convention.
The sport of waterballing involves using a high-pressure stream of water to move a steel ball along a cable.
