japan s northeast shore off the same spot where the devastating 9.0 earthquake was centeredded. high levels of radioactive residue off the coast of japan. it s the latest in what has been a long and frightening battle with the badly damaged nuclear reactor. natalie has the latest right now from japan. reporter: families are returning to pick up the pieces. my husband found them in a drawer in the wreckage of our home. reporter: through all the sentimental tokens found, many more meaningful ones have been lost. keep saying we also had a pet a-dog everyone loved t became a victim of the tsunami. we couldn t save it. reporter: until now, japan s citizens have calmly coped with the double disaster almost reverent to the overwhelming power of nature. with anger at the fukushima nuclear plant clie sis is crisis is left contained. new higher levels of radioactive substances in the sea nearby have been detected. making matters worse is the plant s manager can t get prop
panic in japan as radiation levels inside a nuclear plant spikes. now workers have been evacuated as engineers struggle to stabilize the struggling complex. thanks for joining us tonight at 6:30. i m will thomas. and i m maureen umeh. the radiation is 10 million times above normal as residents continue to recover from the earthquake and tsunami. after reporting a huge spike in radio activity with levels ten million times higher than normal, emergency workers fled the troubled reactor on sunday. airborne radiation measured four times the limit deemed safe by the government. officials say the numbers were so high that the worker measuring radiation levels withdrew before taking a second reading. it is not clear how long workers were exposed to the high levels of radiation or how long the levels at the plant had been that high. the news comes as officials acknowledge there was highly contaminated water in all four of the complex s most troubled reactors. i have counted o
role and the cooler air is to the north of us and that is settling in across our area before it s said and done and let s look at radar. we re going to show you the major system to the south of us. you can see where the low pressure system is and there to the south, they re dealing with severe storms right now. plenty of watches and warnings with heavy rainfall and you can see a lot of lightning in the system as well and that is that ma system moving towards our area and let s look at true view and we re going to show you a closer look at the precipitation as it moves through and there is some mixed precipitation and snow in parts of illinois and indiana with a swath of precipitation from that area all the way to the south as we showed on you radar and so, all of this moisture is moving directly to us and what we re talking about is right now, a winter advisory that is in effect, snow is expected to move in in the overnight hours and this is from 4:00 a.m. sunday morning unti
