A series of shootings in Wilmington, including one outside an elementary school, killed a 12-year-old boy and sent a fourth-grade student to the hospital after she was struck by a stray bullet, police said.
Authorities learned a 25-year-old woman and the boy were seated in a car in the area when they were approached by the armed suspect or suspects, who fired an unknown number of shots at them.
The boy was hospitalized but died of his injuries. A 30-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl are in stable condition. It wasn't immediately known whether the incidents were related.
