Voters decided Lindsey Graskey is the candidate to replace longtime City Councilor Esther Dalbec. Dalbec was first elected in 2005 until an election defeat in 2011. She was reappointed to the Superior City Council in 2013 after the death of the district’s representative and has served ever since. She decided not to run for re-election this year. Graskey, general manager, creative director and part proprietor of the Spirit Room, and Kevin Keener Jr., a founder of North End Days, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club and Essentia Health employee, both ran for the seat because of their desire to serve Superior’s northernmost neighborhood.

Keener, who helped restore North End Days, works for Essentia Health. Lindsey Graskey “I am running because of my passion for our city and its success, my business’ dedication to the district, and the relationships I’ve gained from living in the North End,” Graskey said. “Additionally, the Jim Dalton family reached out to me in December and encouraged me to run while he was struggling with health issues. His family felt I was aligned with what Jim Dalton would want for the North End.

Locally, voters will decide representation for few seats. Only one of five city council races in Superior is facing a challenge this year after long-time Councilor Esther Dalbec decided not to seek another term. “I decided I’m giving it up this year,” Dalbec said. “I think I’ve reached the point at 87 that to get out in the middle of a snowstorm and having to use the telephone for meetings just isn’t the same.”
