Belagavi, April 10 : A day after invoking provisions of the Karnataka Industrial Disputes Act against the ongoing transport employees strike, Karnataka police on Saturday detained Kodihalli Chandrashekar who is leading the Karnataka state owned transport employees strike, in this district headquarters town, sources said.
As the strike entered the fourth day, Chandrashekar who is honorary president of the Karnataka State Road Transport Employees League (KSRTEL), that is steering the protest seeking pay hike on par with other government employees by incorporating the Sixth Pay Commission s recommendations was detained by the Karnataka police in Belagavi.

The strike by the employees of North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation was total in Yadgir and Raichur districts on Wednesday.
No single bus operated from out of the four depots, Yadgir, Gurmitkal, Shahapur and Surpur, in Yadgir district. The central bus terminus in the district headquarters which always witnesses a rush wore a deserted look. The scene was not different in central bus terminuses in Gurmitkal, Shahapur, Surpur and Hunsagi too.
“Yadgir district has a total of 316 schedules every day. The daily traffic revenue is ₹34 lakh. On the first day of the strike, the department has suffered a loss of ₹34 lakh,” DTO of Yadgir Ramesh Patil said.

Bengaluru, April 6 : Taking a tough stand, the Karnataka government on Tuesday ruled out any negotiations with various Road Transport Corporations employees deciding to go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, demanding that their salaries be increased in accordance with the sixth pay commission recommendations.
The employees of four different state run road transport corporations have been demanding that the state government bring them under the government employees category in order to receive the benefits of pay commissions in the future too. They had gone on a four-day strike in December last year with the same demand.

Bengaluru, Dec 14 : Prominent farmer leader Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, who led the Karnataka Transport Workers Union protest for four days, on Monday said that the workers were withdrawing their protest and would resume their duties across the state.
This announcement comes after Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation Chairman Nandish Reddy as a government s representative handed over a written assurance in which nine of the 10 demands were accepted by the state government.
Addressing the agitating staff members here, Chandrashekhar clarified that the government in effect has accepted eight of the demands as in the case of ninth demand on implementing Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, the state government had assured only if it gets finance department s clearance, which means to say that it is still very ambiguous.
