Asheville Citizen Times wins journalism honors for outstanding work Staff reports The Asheville Citizen Times was honored with 16 awards from the North Carolina Press Association Friday night in a virtual ceremony held in lieu of the annual convention and banquet.  Among the awards were several first place honors for staff reporters Mackensy Lunsford and David Thompson, and for photojournalist Angela Wilhelm.  Asheville competes in a category that includes newspapers in Wilmington, Durham, Salisbury and Greenville, among others. “Last year was such a challenging time for us in so many ways, not just the pandemic,” Citizen Times Executive Editor Jewell Walston said. “It is encouraging to know that through those times of transition, furloughs and attacks on journalists, all while navigating COVID-19, that our talented staff could still focus on great work and produce purposeful and impactful journalism.”
