Two men have been indicted in the death of a Lafayette man whose remains were found earlier this year in Gibson.
A Terrebonne Parish grand jury found evidence to charge Alvin Fitch, 34, of Morgan City, and Christopher Martin, 34, of Berwick, with second-degree murder June 1. An indictment does not presume guilt or innocence but indicates the grand jury found prosecutors presented enough evidence to warrant a trial on the charges.
The two men are accused of killing 36-year-old Jake Menard, of Lafayette. A third suspect identified as Morgan City resident Chance Boudreaux, 26, was charged as an accessory after the fact.
Menard had been reported missing to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in November 2019. Morgan City Police later received information that he had been killed in the Gibson area.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the remains as belonging to 36-year-old Jake Menard, of Lafayette.
Menard had been reported missing to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in November 2019. Morgan City Police later received information that he had been murdered in the Gibson area.
Investigators said they learned Menard was brought to Gibson from Morgan City to “settle an unpaid drug debt,” and he was killed and buried.
Terrebonne detectives worked with Morgan City Police and Lafayette Parish detectives in a joint investigation until Menard’s buried bones were found Feb. 24 in a wooded area in the 5200 block of North Bayou Black Drive.
