One of the most acclaimed is cabinet-maker and artist Schulim Krimper, described as the “Gio Ponti” – an Italian designer of great note – of Australia by Geoffrey Smith, chair of Smith and Singer (formerly Sotheby’s Australia). A Schulim Krimper cocktail cabinet – circa 1965 – sold at auction for $23,000. Credit:Smith & Singer “Krimper was a great artist, combining the Australian landscape and local timbers with a strong European sensibility,” says Smith, who has sold a number of major Krimper pieces over the years.
