The Paramount movie Infinite, delayed due to the pandemic and now punted straight to Paramount Plus, is profoundly incoherent, and the terrible performances and muddled plotting don’t help. Mark Wahlberg stars as a reincarnating warrior with a lot of past lives, fighting an enemy who wants to wipe out humanity. Many of the actors in the Paramount+ release “Infinite” might as well be avatars; You can picture the green screens as you’re watching the complicated set pieces, and there is no emotional investment required or even requested. But it delivers what it promises, in the form of expensive spectacle.

A hodgepodge of ideas better executed elsewhere and dragged down by an uninterested lead actor.

The Matrix (1999) through numerous YA adventures in the two decades since. They’ve tapered off some in recent years, and I’d like to think it’s because people have realized how uninteresting the concept tends to be, especially when “the one” in question is just another boring white dude. Turns out that not everyone got that memo, though, as
