Nora McElhone found out how some local mums have coped with welcoming new babies during lockdown. Alice Marra and Colin Reid welcomed baby Angus Reid-Marra to the world in April 2020. Alice, 41, is a musician from Dundee, where she lives with husband Colin and their little boy who is now nearly 10 months old. “We were at the height of the pandemic,” Alice recalls. “Colin and I attended two antenatal classes at the beginning of the year, then they were cancelled. I still saw my community midwife regularly and spent a lot of time at the antenatal clinic at Ninewells due to reduced movements. Everyone who looked after me was amazing.”

From green-keeping to caddying, Rob has had his fair share of experience of working with sand but lockdowns and its associated restrictions have given him the chance to explore a more artistic side to the material. The 35-year old American was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and now lives in North East Fife with his wife Hailey and four-year old son Hudson. His fascination with creating art in sand began, “when I worked on the grounds crew at Portland Golf Club. A friend and I would rake patterns and it actually helped to ‘stir up’ the sand so it was a green light from everyone.”
