Tourism firms lap up GSB loan offer

Several Thai tourism operators have used their land as collateral for the Government Savings Bank s (GSB) loan programme.
Approved on Monday, the programme is designed to provide low-interest loans for tourism-related businesses and those designated as supply chains of the tourism sector.
Of the 10-billion-baht credit line for the loan programme, businesses requested a combined sum of 5 billion yesterday, the first day for applications, said Vitai Ratanakorn, president and chief executive of GSB.
This reflects considerable demand for loans among tourism business operators to beef up their financial liquidity, said Mr Vitai.

The Department of Special Investigation has been asked to investigate alleged fraud in a housing project in Phetchaburi province, with about 100 foreigners claiming damages totalling 2 billion baht.
The petition was filed with the DSI on Wednesday by Srisuwan Janya, president of the Stop Global Warming Association.
Mr Srisuwan was accompanied to the DSI office by a Russian man, Rusan Ataev, and a British man, Marcos Hurst, he said were among the damaged parties.

The Royal Forest Department on Wednesday filed charges against the mother of Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit who was leader of the Future Forward Party until it was dissolved for unlawfully owning at least 77 plots of forest land in Ratchaburi including 450 rai in reserved forests.
Department chief Adisorn Noochdumrong pressed charges against Somporn Juangroongruangkit with the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD) on Wednesday.
Mr Adisorn said the department found Ms Somporn unlawfully owned plots of forest land as accused by Pareena Kraikupt, the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) MP for Ratchaburi and local people who had applied for community forest land rights documents.
