Doubling the size of Estonia's territorial defense structure to 20,000 people is necessary to strengthen Estonia's defense, Minister of Defense of Estonia Hanno Pevkur (Reform) said this week.
A total of 10,000 Estonian Defense Forces (EDF) reservists are to be assigned to volunteer Defense League (Kaitseliit) districts, EDF commander Lieutenant General Martin Herem said on Tuesday.
Wednesday is a flag day in Estonia, marking the 102nd anniversary of the Tartu Peace Treaty, the primary document which signed an independent Estonia into being.
Tuesday, November 30 has been declared a national flag day. The event, dubbed the Day of Perpetual Estonian Nationhood, is new in that it marks parity between the amount of time Estonia has been an independent country, and the amount of time it was under Soviet and Nazi occupation – a little over half a century each.
