There was a lot of traffic on the road early on Monday morning due to work on the bridge on the A7 near Purmerend. The ANWB reported a 25-minute delay on the N247 from Volendam to Amsterdam around 6:30 a.m. That road is approximately parallel to the A7 towards the south of the province of Noord-Holland.
The planned work on the A7 bridge over the Noordhollandsch Kanaal near Purmerened will start on Monday, resulting in partial highway closures for five months. The closures already started overnight as Rijkswatestaat prepares for the work.
The NS will only sometimes use longer trains when roadworks will be carried out on the A7 motorway bridge in Purmerend. The national railway could not say when they would run the longer trains, but mostly believes the trains they are currently operating to Purmerend have enough space for all passengers who choose to travel by train rather than driving.
In its Spring Memorandum, the Amsterdam office of mayor and aldermen set 100 million euros aside for the planned bridge of the IJ river, several sources told Parool. That is about a third of the bridge’s estimated cost. The Transport Region will also contribute about 100 million euros. The other 100 million must still be raised in the coming years.
