Reporter the Sonoma County board of supervisors got a sobering number from fema on just how many people have applied for help in the wake of the fire. The board voted on two major issues. It passed a measure to allow the county to rent space on the county fairgrounds and other sites to place temporary Housing Units for up to 18 months for 200 to 500 units if needed. How many and what kind of units will be chosen, but expect everything from tiny homes to rvs to travel trailers to longterm house rentals. The actual number is of units that will come here based on the interviews that fema does with the applicants, travel trailers are not always the most suitable housing method. Reporter the chief says that use of force incidents are down 17 from this time last year and adds that the department of justice recommended that the department explore the use of tasers following an investigation into the department after a number of officerinvolved shootings in recent years. So we have known that for some time three predecessors prior to chief scott tried unsuccessfully to get tasers passed. Tonight could be different. It depends what the commission decides. Many Community Leaders voice concerns about how and when tasers would be used for as well as concerns officers might use them instead of de escalation techniques. At every meeting the highest issue an area of concern was community safety. If that is a policy without first adopting guidelines and procedures that align with the warnings of the fractures in the San Francisco community it is simply foolish.
